A Vertical Form-Fill-Seal (VFFS) machine produces pillow packs, three-side seals, four-side seals, and irregular-shaped or gusset sachets. These packs are automatically filled and sealed before being hermetically closed.

Film Forming and Bag Creation

VFFS packaging machinery feeds a roll of polyethylene terephthalate (PET), biaxially-oriented polypropylene (BOPP), polyethylene (PE), or laminated film over a forming tube. This shapes the film into the desired packaging size. The bottom and vertical seals are then applied where the two edges of the film meet. The machine’s programming automatically controls the bag length.

Filling and Sealing Process

Once the bag is formed, the filling process begins. The machine is synchronised with an auger, multi-head scale, or volumetric filler, ensuring precise dosing and filling. Sensors detect when the bag is filled correctly before the top seal is applied, and the bag is cut away.

Additional Features and Packaging Options

Depending on the package’s function, additional features like batch/expiration dates, tear notches, or hole punches can be added. The filled bags are then transferred to other machines, such as cartoning machines, to place items like spices or cereals into boxes, or to baling machines for bulk packaging.
