A sweets packaging machine weighs sweets into bags. These are the sweets our machines pack, with the pack each goes into and the machine that packs it. A trial on your own sweets confirms the setup.
Weigher-fed VFFS for sweets in pillow bags. Sweets vary in shape and weight, so they are weighed rather than measured by volume. A multihead weigher combines the hopper portions closest to the target weight, which keeps giveaway down. A Z-type bucket elevator feeds the weigher, and each portion drops into a pillow bag the VFFS machine forms from roll film and seals.
14-head weigher line for small bags of wrapped sweets. Our wrapped-sweets line packs bags of about 10 g to 20 g. A check weigher after the VFFS rejects any bag outside the target weight, and a thermal printer adds the date code. The line takes 520 mm film and is run by two operators.
Four-head weigher fill-seal machine. Sweets and chocolates sold in pre-made bags run on a four-head weigher fill-seal machine for pre-made bags. The machine opens each bag, fills it with a weighed portion and seals it, from 30 g to 500 g on one machine. On our sweets line the bag type was chosen in trials with the customer’s sweets before they ordered.
Semi-automatic four-head weigher with a band sealer. For smaller runs, a four-head weigher fills pre-made bags of 20 g to 1 kg while an operator places each bag, and a band sealer closes it. It suits sweets makers starting to automate or packing several products on one machine.
These are the formats sweets are packed in, with the machine setup for each. Bag sizes are confirmed on a trial with your sweets.

Output on a sweets line is set by the bag size, the weigher’s head count and how freely the sweets flow. Our four-head weigher fill-seal machine is rated at 10 to 18 bags a minute on 30 g to 500 g bags, and the semi-automatic four-head weigher with a band sealer at 10 to 15 packs a minute. These are build ratings, not results measured on a customer’s line.
We confirm the output for your sweets and bag size on a trial before we quote.
A confectionery producer packs wrapped sweets into pillow bags of about 10 g to 20 g on a VFFS line we supplied with a 14-head multihead weigher, Z-type elevator, check weigher and thermal date printer.
A South African confectionery maker packs granule-style sweets from 30 g to 500 g on a four-head weigher fill-seal machine for pre-made bags. We trialled several bag options with the customer’s sweets, and they bought the machine once the best bag was chosen. Read the four-head weigher fill-seal case study.
For a chocolate producer we supplied a four-head weigher fill-seal machine that fills pre-made bags of 30 g to 500 g, rated at 10 to 18 bags a minute.

A sweets packaging line is quoted to configuration, so we need these details about your sweets and plant.
The sweets: wrapped or unwrapped, hard, chewy, jelly or chocolate, and whether they stick together
The bag sizes and target weights, from small pillow bags to retail bags
Target output, in bags a minute
Whether your sweets are wrapped one by one before bagging, and whether you need a check weigher or a date code
Your film or pre-made bags, and any printing on the pack
Floor space, power and compressed air at your plant
Send a sample of your sweets with the enquiry and we will trial them before we quote. Read the packaging machine cost guide for what shapes a quotation, and how to choose a VFFS machine. Installation and operator training are included in your quote, and spares are held in Johannesburg.
Sweets come in many shapes, sizes and textures, and some are sticky. These traits decide how a sweets packaging line is set up.
Sweets vary in shape and weight. Wrapped sweets, granule-style sweets and chocolate pieces do not pour evenly, so a cup cannot measure them by volume. A multihead weigher weighs them instead and combines portions to reach the target weight.
Gummies and jelly sweets stick. Sticky sweets cling to each other and to the weigher, so they run on a weigher with a special contact surface. How sticky your sweets are decides the setup, which is why we trial them first.
Many sweets are wrapped twice. Individual sweets and toffees are twist or fold wrapped one by one on a sweet wrapping machine, then weighed into bags. The wrapping machine and the bagging line are quoted together.
Sweets are weighed like granules, so this page sits under the grain and granule packing machines. Chips, nuts and mixed snacks pack on the same weigher lines (see the snack packaging machine), and the gummy production line guide explains how gummies are made before they reach the packing machine.

No. We supply the packing end of a gummy line: the multihead weigher and the bagging or fill-seal machine. We do not supply the cooking, depositing and moulding machines that make gummies. Our gummy production line guide explains how gummies are made.
