Configurations
A sleeve sealer collates the products, draws LDPE film around the group, seals it into a sleeve and passes it through a heat tunnel that shrinks the film tight. The ends stay open, which is what makes it a bundling machine rather than an enclosing one — and why it costs less per pack than wrapping each item. What you choose comes down to how the product reaches the machine. If you are still deciding between machine types, start at shrink wrap machines.
01
The operator groups the products and loads them; the machine seals the sleeve and the tunnel shrinks it. The lower-cost entry point, and the flexible one when pack configurations change between runs.
02
Products arrive on an inverter-driven conveyor, sensors align and collate them, and the machine feeds film, seals and shrinks with the operator only supervising. The configuration for continuous bottling and FMCG lines.
03
Each sealer pairs with a tunnel sized to the pack: silica-tube heating, one or two fans, roller conveying, and adjustable heat and belt speed. Tunnel width and height decide the largest bundle you can run, so the pair is specified together.
04
Infeed conveyors, multi-lane collation, adjustable temperature control and end-of-line integration behind a filler, capper and labeller, so the sleeve sealer holds the same rate as the rest of the bottling line.
Pack types
A sleeve sealer groups products into a single sellable or shippable unit. Because the ends stay open, it suits packs that need holding together rather than sealing in. These are the four jobs it does most.
Bottled water, soft drinks, juice bottles and canned beverages bundled into retail multipacks — the highest-volume use of a sleeve sealer, usually sitting at the end of a bottling line.
Retail boxes, promotional packs, bakery trays and FMCG multipacks bundled for easier handling, warehousing, palletising and distribution.
Cleaning chemicals, paint tins, lubricants, personal care and hygiene products bundled for protection in storage and transport while keeping a clean appearance.
Tissue packs, building materials and other large or heavy items where the bundle has to survive handling, and where wrapping each item individually would cost more than it is worth.

Specifications
A sleeve sealer is specified by the size of the finished bundle, not the individual product. Four sealer sizes cover packs from 400 × 300 × 300 mm up to 730 × 500 × 350 mm, each paired with a tunnel whose shrink chamber has to clear the same bundle.
Sizing the machine. Measure the collated bundle at its largest — the count of bottles or cartons you want in one pack, laid out as they will run. That figure sets the sealer, and the tunnel shrink chamber must clear it in width and height. Loading weight matters too: the standard limit is 30 kg per pack.
Sleeve sealers run LDPE film as standard; the tunnels also handle POF and PVC. Because the sleeve is open at both ends, film use per pack is lower than a fully enclosed wrap, which is much of the cost case for bundling.
Speeds run from 1 to 20 packs per minute across the range. On an automatic machine with sensor collation the figure depends on how quickly product arrives; on a semi-automatic it depends on the operator. Confirm real output on a trial with your product.

About our modelModel codes shown are machines we have supplied and configured for previous projects. Your machine is specified and configured to suit your product, output and pack format — not supplied off the shelf.
About the machine
A sleeve sealer collates products into a group, draws LDPE film around them from a roll, and seals and cuts it into a sleeve open at both ends. The bundle then passes through a heat tunnel where silica-tube heaters shrink the film tight before it cools and discharges. For the wider category and the other machines in it, see shrink wrap machines.
On an automatic machine an inverter-driven conveyor and sensors handle the collation and spacing; on a semi-automatic the operator groups and loads the pack.
Downstream the bundle feeds a palletiser, case packer or straight to despatch, which is why sleeve sealers usually sit at the end of a bottling or FMCG line.
Read the full explanation in how sleeve shrink wrap delivers complete packaging solutions.
Sleeve sealers bundle almost anything that can be collated into a stable group and fits the tunnel chamber, up to 30 kg per pack.
Typical packs are bottled water and soft drinks, canned beverages, dairy and sauces, bakery trays, retail cartons, tissue packs, paint tins, lubricants and cleaning chemicals.
Where each item needs a fully enclosed four-side seal rather than a bundle, use an L-bar sealer for small consistent packs or a side bar sealer for long or continuous products.

Comparison
Both run the same sealing principle and the same LDPE film. What changes is how the pack is collated and loaded, and that decides output, labour and cost. Semi-automatic suits medium volumes and changing pack sizes; fully automatic suits a line that runs the same configuration all day.
| Semi-automatic | Fully automatic | |
|---|---|---|
| Loading | Operator groups and loads each pack | Conveyor feed with sensor collation |
| Speed | 10–20 packs/min, operator-paced | 1–10 packs/min sustained, line-paced |
| Pack flexibility | Changes between sizes easily | Best on one settled configuration |
| Labour | One operator per machine | Supervision only |
| Installed cost | Lower | Higher |
| Best for | Medium volumes, mixed products | Continuous bottling and FMCG lines |
Choose semi-automatic when pack configurations change or volumes are moderate; choose fully automatic when the sleeve sealer has to hold the pace of the line ahead of it.
The three shrink wrap machines do different jobs. A sleeve sealer bundles a group with open ends; an L-bar and a side sealer each enclose a product completely on four sides.
| Sleeve sealer | L-bar sealer | Side bar sealer | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Job | Bundles a group as one pack | Seals one small pack fully | Seals long or continuous products fully |
| Film | LDPE from two rolls | Centre-fold POF | Centre-fold POF or LDPE |
| Seal | Two-side seal, open ends | Four-side seal, enclosed | Four-side seal, enclosed |
| Product size | Large bundles to 30 kg | Small to medium, within the frame | Any length, width to 850 mm |
| Typical use | Bottles, cans, cartons, trays | Boxes, cosmetics, books | Curtain rails, timber, trays |
Because the sleeve is the outward face of the pack, film choice is a branding decision as much as a packaging one.
| Printed shrink film | Clear shrink film | |
|---|---|---|
| Presentation | Custom graphics, logos and promotional messaging | Product visible through the film |
| Branding | Replaces labels or cartons on the bundle | Relies on the products’ own labels |
| Cost | Higher setup cost per design | Lower, no print setup |
| Flexibility | One design per SKU | One film across many products |
| Best for | Beverage multipacks, promotions, retail | Transport packs, industrial goods, mixed SKUs |
Advantages
A sleeve sealer is the cheapest way per pack to turn loose products into a stable, sellable unit. Because the film only sleeves the group rather than enclosing each item, material cost per pack is low, and one machine handles bottles, cans, cartons and trays without tooling changes. It stabilises loads for transport, adds a tamper-evident finish, and on printed film it carries your branding without a carton or extra labels. For a bottling line it is usually the last machine needed to finish the pack.
Where each item must be individually enclosed on four sides, an L-bar sealer or a side bar sealer is the right machine instead.
Quotation
A sleeve sealer is quoted to the bundle you need to produce, so the quotation is built from your product, pack count and target output rather than from a list price. To narrow the specification before you enquire, read L-bar vs sleeve sealer and how sleeve shrink wrap delivers; for what shapes the figure on any machine quotation, see the packaging machine cost guide. Send us your product and pack count and we will bundle it on a trial machine and quote the configuration that suits it.
Why us
Every sleeve sealer we supply is installed and commissioned on your floor, with operator training, a spare-parts holding in Johannesburg and technical support once the line is running.
Installation and commissioning.
We position the sealer and tunnel, connect the 220 V and 380 V supplies and compressed air, set collation, seal timing, tunnel temperature and belt speed against your own product and film, and hand over once bundles are shrinking tight and square.
Operator training.
Your operators are trained on film loading and tracking, changing pack counts and collation settings, seal temperature and dwell, tunnel settings, daily cleaning of the sealing blade, and the wear items worth keeping on the shelf.
Service, spares and support.
Sealing elements, belts, film tracking parts and tunnel heating elements are held in Johannesburg, with service across South Africa and into neighbouring SADC markets. Routine care is set out in our packaging machine maintenance guide.

Questions
A sleeve sealer collates products into a group, wraps LDPE film around them, seals and cuts it into a sleeve open at both ends, then passes the bundle through a heat tunnel that shrinks the film tight. It bundles products together rather than enclosing each one.
Bottles in glass, plastic, aluminium or tin; canned beverages and multipacks; cartons, retail boxes and bakery trays; tissue packs; paint tins, lubricants and cleaning chemicals; personal care and hygiene products; and other consumer or industrial goods that can be collated into a stable group.
Yes — the sealer forms the sleeve but the film only pulls tight under heat, so the tunnel is what makes the pack. Each sealer is supplied with a matched tunnel: SAP6540-SA with SAP-6040PE, SAP-600XF with SAP-5530POF, SAP-7540 with SAP-7530PE, and SAP-9540 with SAP-9050PE.
LDPE (PE) sleeve film as standard, which is the tough, economical choice for bundling. The tunnels also run POF and PVC. Film can be clear or printed with your own branding.
Between 1 and 20 packs per minute depending on the model, the pack size and how quickly product is collated. A semi-automatic machine is paced by the operator; a fully automatic one by the line feeding it. Real output is confirmed on a trial.
From 400 × 300 × 300 mm on the SAP6540-SA up to 730 × 500 × 350 mm on the SAP-9540, with a loading weight of up to 30 kg per pack. What matters is the size of the collated bundle, not the individual product, and the tunnel shrink chamber has to clear it.
Choose a sleeve sealer when you are bundling a group and open ends are acceptable — it uses less film and handles bigger, heavier packs. Choose an L-bar sealer when each item needs a fully enclosed retail pack. Our full comparison covers the decision.
Routine care: clean the sealing blade and film path, check film tracking stays aligned, calibrate seal and tunnel temperatures, inspect belts, rollers and conveyors, and check the tunnel heating elements. The general schedule is in our packaging machine maintenance guide.
