The price of a packaging machine depends on four factors: machine type, production speed, level of automation and customisation. For a Mozambique order the quotation also needs to be clear about which costs we cover and which costs the buyer handles. Both are listed below.
Quotes are issued in South African rand. We convert to another currency on request and note the rate with the date it was quoted, and that conversion can be updated to the rate on the day you pay. Terms on entry- to mid-level machines are 50% deposit and 50% before delivery. Complex, customised and full-line projects are structured around the Factory Acceptance Test and set out in your quote.
A semi-automatic L-bar sealer and a multi-lane VFFS line differ considerably in price. The machine type depends on the product and the required pack format. We confirm this before preparing the quotation.
Production speed has a major effect on the machine price. Doubling the units per minute usually requires more filling lanes, heavier framing and faster servo drives rather than a faster setting on the same machine.
Machines can be hand-loaded, semi-automatic, or fully automatic with infeed and end-of-line equipment. Automation costs more but reduces labour and rework, so we can quote both options for you to compare.
Customisation covers product dimensions, pack size and added features such as date coding or gas flushing. Standard-range machines cost less and are delivered sooner than a custom build.
Our quoted price includes sea freight from the factory to our workshop in Riversands, Johannesburg, which is our only premises in South Africa. There are two ways to move the machine from there into Mozambique. Collecting from Johannesburg is usually the more affordable route.
The machine arrives at Riversands as part of our normal sea shipment, and this freight is already included in the quoted price.
For some machines we can air freight the unit directly to your country instead of routing it through Johannesburg. We supplied our clients in Nigeria this way.
Mozambique has working ports at Maputo, Beira and Nacala, so a direct sea shipment is possible if you are prepared to take a full container. For Maputo the 550 km road run from Johannesburg is usually quicker and cheaper. A shared container cannot be redirected to a single buyer, so this only applies to a full container. Tell us the machine and we will price both routes.
Machines leave our Riversands workshop in Johannesburg and travel the N4 through Ressano Garcia and Lebombo. It is roughly 550 km to Maputo, which is an overnight run. Beira and Nacala are considerably further and are usually reached by coastal shipping or through the Tete corridor. Our technicians then travel to site to install and commission the machine.
Lead time depends on whether the machine is in stock. A machine held at Riversands is ready for collection once payment clears. A machine that is not in stock takes 10 to 12 weeks from receipt of deposit, which covers the factory build, the Factory Acceptance Test and sea freight to Johannesburg. Transport from Johannesburg and clearing at the border are on top of that. We do not quote a lead time we have not confirmed with the factory first.
Six factors determine which machine suits your plant: product type, required output, pack format, power supply and floor space, budget, and your expected production in three years. We confirm all six before preparing a quotation. For a plant in Mozambique we cannot inspect the factory beforehand, so we work from your measurements, photographs and electrical specification instead. These need to be confirmed before the machine is loaded, because access problems are far more difficult to resolve once the machine has reached Maputo.
The product may be a powder, granule, liquid or solid. The product type determines the filling system, which may be an auger, multihead weigher, volumetric cup or liquid pump.
We work from the units per minute you produce in normal operation rather than a peak-day figure. The required output determines whether a single-lane, multi-lane or fully automatic line is suitable, and whether one shift is enough to cover your packing season.
The pack format is what you sell into, such as a pillow bag, stick pack, doypack, zipper pouch, tray, bottle or shrink multipack. The format usually narrows the choice to one or two machine types. If you are packing to a supermarket listing or an export specification, send it to us and we will work to those requirements.
You supply the voltage, phase and frequency, and the machine is built to that specification. Please tell us at the start if the line will run on a generator for part of the day, so that it can be allowed for in the design. We also confirm the footprint, ceiling height, door width and the position of your compressed air supply from your measurements and photographs before the machine is loaded.
Your budget helps us determine which machine configuration makes commercial sense. We recommend the most cost-effective machine that meets your requirement rather than the largest machine available.
Room to expand is part of the specification. A producer who wins a national listing often needs more output within a year, and it is better to add to the line than to replace it. A regional powder line we supplied was followed by a larger machine as volumes grew.

Yes, and this is how most cross-border customers buy. Courier us your product, the packaging film and the carton you pack into. We run a sample batch on the recommended machine and send you the sealed packs and footage of the trial before any deposit is required. The Riversands showroom is open during the working week if you are in Johannesburg.
There are two main delivery options. The machine usually arrives by sea at our Johannesburg workshop, which is included in the quoted price, and you collect it from there. For some machines we can air freight directly from the factory to your country instead, which costs considerably more. The delivery section above sets out the costs and paperwork for both options.
Our own technicians install the machine, not a local subcontractor. They travel to your site, position the machine, connect it to your power, commission it, and train your operators on your product and your film. You arrange and cover the visa, including the invitation letters we will need from you, plus flights, accommodation, meals, local transport and the days on site. We handle a long-distance job inside South Africa the same way, Cape Town included. Installation takes from half a day to three days depending on the machine.
Sealing elements, heating bands, drive belts, blades, seals and sensors are held in stock at our Johannesburg workshop and couriered to you. Ordering the same parts from an overseas factory normally takes eight to twelve weeks. Please allow for border formalities in addition to the courier transit time.
Phone or video call the workshop. Because visas take time to arrange, we work through the problem remotely first. To date we have not had to send a technician across a border for a repair, as every fault has been resolved by phone with the operator at the machine. If a site visit is necessary we will arrange it, and you cover the travel costs.
No. We operate one workshop, at Riversands in Johannesburg, and we supply and support the whole region from there. Buying directly from an overseas factory means there are no spare parts held in the region and no technician who can travel to your site. Mozambique sits outside the Southern African Customs Union, so the machine clears as a full import and duties apply. You or your agent handle the clearing; we supply the commercial invoices and machine documentation. Tell us if your authority requires documentation in Portuguese and we will request it from the manufacturer.
We do not offer in-house financing, so machines are paid for directly. Many customers finance through their own bank, and we supply the quotes, specifications and documentation banks require. We are a registered vendor with Wesbank and have supplied machines financed through Nedbank and Absa.

Yes. CE marking is the manufacturer’s declaration that a machine meets European health, safety and environmental requirements, covering guarding, emergency stops and electrical safety. The documentation is supplied with the machine. CE marking is not a legal requirement in the region, but producers packing for export are regularly asked for it by buyers and auditors. If your customer or your customs authority needs further documentation, tell us what is required and we will obtain it from the manufacturer.
Factories specialise. A plant that builds powder fillers builds little else and perfects it. We therefore work with a different manufacturer for each machine type rather than sourcing everything from one supplier. For anything outside our standard range we obtain quotes from three factories, and we visit and inspect them in person before a build is committed.
We work back from the product and the pack format. The six factors we confirm are set out in the section above. For a cross-border order we work from photographs, measurements and a courier sample, so send us the product and the film and we will run it here before recommending a machine.
Both. Many customers start with a single machine for filling, sealing or wrapping and add to it as their volumes grow. This is what happened with a regional powder line we supplied, which was followed by a larger machine. We also supply complete lines covering filling, sealing, wrapping, labelling, coding and end-of-line automation.
Yes. Send us photographs of the line, the conveyor heights, the available floor space, and the door and passage the machine has to pass through. This is more important for a cross-border order, because access problems are far more difficult to resolve once the machine has arrived in Mozambique. We therefore confirm that the machine will fit before it is loaded.
Yes. Depending on machine type they run laminated films, polyethylene, polypropylene and other heat-sealable films. Film choice affects sealing temperature and achievable speed more than most buyers expect. Send us a roll from the supplier you actually buy from and we will run the trial on that film, not a substitute.

Yes. The warranty is one year, on the same terms as for a South African buyer. Genuine mechanical and electrical faults are covered and the parts are supplied free of charge. You pay the courier cost of getting the parts to you. Damage caused by operator error is charged for, as it is for local customers. Every job is logged on a job card so that the service history remains traceable.
Possibly, and this is one way Mozambique differs from a landlocked market. Maputo, Beira and Nacala are all working ports. For Maputo the 550 km road run from Johannesburg is usually quicker and cheaper. For Beira or Nacala a sea shipment may well be the better option. Tell us the machine and we will price both.
