We work back from the product and the pack, never from a catalogue page. Six things decide the machine, and we go through all six before a quote is written. Across a border we cannot walk your floor first, so measurements, photographs and your electrical specification do that work instead — and they have to be right before the machine is loaded, because a door that is too narrow is a far worse problem in Harare than in Midrand.
Powder, granule, liquid or solid. This decides the filler before anything else is discussed: auger, multihead weigher, volumetric cup or liquid pump.
Units per minute at the rate you actually run, not a peak-day figure. Output decides whether a single-lane, multi-lane or fully automatic line is the honest answer, and whether one shift can hold your packing season.
The pack you sell into: pillow bag, stick pack, doypack, zipper pouch, tray, bottle or shrink multipack. Format narrows the machine type to one or two options. If you are packing to a supermarket listing or an export spec, send us the spec and we will work to it rather than around it.
You give us the specification and we build the machine to it — voltage, phase and frequency. Tell us up front if the line will run on a generator for part of the day, because that belongs in the specification rather than being discovered during commissioning. Footprint, ceiling height, door width and where compressed air already runs are confirmed on measurements and photographs before the machine is loaded.
What the line has to cost to make commercial sense. We recommend the most cost-effective machine that does the job, not the largest one we can sell you.
Room to scale is part of the specification. A producer who wins a national listing usually needs more output inside a year, and growth should mean adding to the line rather than replacing it. One Zimbabwean powder line we supplied was followed by a larger machine as volumes grew.
Courier us your product, the film you intend to use and the carton you pack into. We will run a sample batch on the machine we have recommended, send you the sealed packs and the trial footage, and only then talk about a deposit. If you are travelling to Johannesburg anyway, the Riversands showroom is open through the working week.
Price is driven by machine type, production speed, level of automation and any customisation — the same four levers as any other quote. What differs across a border is the line where our responsibility stops, and we would rather show you that line now than argue about it at Beitbridge.
Quotes are issued in South African rand. We will convert to another currency on request and note the rate along with the date it was quoted, and that conversion can be brought up to the rate on the day you pay. Terms on entry- to mid-level machines are 50% deposit and 50% before delivery; complex, customised and full-line projects are structured around the Factory Acceptance Test and set out in your quote.
A semi-automatic L-bar sealer and a multi-lane VFFS line are different orders of investment. The machine type follows the product and the pack, so this is settled before price is.
Output is the single biggest lever on cost. Doubling units per minute usually means more lanes, heavier framing and faster servo drives rather than the same machine run harder.
Hand-loaded, semi-automatic, or fully automatic with infeed and end-of-line. Automation is priced against the labour and rework it removes, so it is worth quoting both ways and comparing the two properly before deciding.
Product dimensions, pack size and added features such as date coding or gas flushing. Standard-range machines cost less and arrive sooner than a custom build.
Our quoted price already carries sea freight from the factory to our workshop in Riversands, Johannesburg — our single base in South Africa. What happens after that is a choice, and the honest answer is that collecting from Johannesburg is almost always the cheaper one.
The machine arrives at Riversands as part of our normal sea shipment, already paid for inside the quoted price. From there it is yours to move.
For some machines we can fly the unit straight to your country instead of routing it through Johannesburg — the way we supplied our clients in Nigeria.
We book whole containers and consolidate several customers’ machines into each one, so a container cannot be diverted to a single buyer. If you want a sea shipment sent direct, you would need to take an entire container yourself. For Zimbabwe it rarely matters — there is no port anyway, so a direct sea shipment would still land at Durban or Beira and travel by road from there.
Machines leave our Riversands workshop and travel the N1 to Beitbridge, roughly 550 km, then about 580 km on to Harare or 320 km to Bulawayo. Some clients bring their own truck and cross themselves; others appoint a courier that handles the border. Both have worked. Our technicians travel up to install and commission on site once the machine is in place.
Zimbabwe is the largest market we supply outside South Africa, and we have delivered all four of the machine types this page leads with — shrink wrap, flow wrap, vertical and horizontal form-fill-seal — plus multihead-weigher systems. Yes, and this is how most cross-border customers buy. Courier us your product, the film you intend to use and the carton you pack into. Two ways. Usually it comes by sea to our Johannesburg workshop, which is already inside the quoted price, and you collect it — with your own truck or a courier that handles the border crossing. Alternatively, for some machines we can air freight direct from the factory to your country, as we did for clients in Nigeria: we take the sea freight out of the price and quote the air freight instead. Air freight costs considerably more, and a very large machine needs a bigger aircraft again, so not every machine can fly.
Our own technicians, not a local subcontractor. They travel up to your site, position the machine, connect it to your power and commission it, and train your operators on your product and your film. You arrange and cover the visa, including the invitation letters we will need from you, plus flights, accommodation, meals, local transport and the days on site. This is exactly how we handle a long-distance job inside South Africa, Cape Town included, so it is not a penalty for being across a border. Installation runs from half a day to two or three days depending on how complex the machine is.
Sealing elements, heating bands, drive belts, blades, seals and sensors are held on the shelf at our Johannesburg workshop and couriered out, rather than ordered from an overseas factory on an eight-to-twelve-week lead time. Allow for clearing at the border on top of the courier transit.
Call or video call the workshop. Visas take time, so we solve remotely first, and in practice we have not yet had to fly a technician to Zimbabwe for a repair — everything so far has been settled over the phone with the operator on the machine. If a visit is genuinely needed we will arrange it, and you cover the travel cost.
No, and we would rather say so than pretend otherwise. We run one workshop, in Johannesburg, and we supply and support the whole region from it. The comparison that matters is not whether we are around the corner, but whether anyone is reachable at all: buy direct from an overseas factory and there are no spares in the region and nobody to send. Zimbabwe is our largest market outside South Africa, and the people who quoted your machine are the people who answer the call.
We do not provide in-house financing, so machines are paid for directly. Many customers finance through their own bank, and we supply the quotes, specifications and documentation banks require. We are a registered vendor with Wesbank, and have supplied machines financed through Nedbank and Absa.

Yes. CE marking is the manufacturer’s declaration that a machine meets European health, safety and environmental requirements, covering guarding, emergency stops and electrical safety, and the documentation is supplied with the machine. It is not a legal requirement in the region, but producers packing for export are regularly asked for it by buyers and auditors. If your customer or your customs authority needs further documentation, tell us what and we will obtain it from the manufacturer.
Factories specialise. A plant that builds powder fillers builds little else, and perfects it. Rather than sourcing everything from one supplier, we work with a different manufacturer for each machine type. For anything outside our standard range we obtain quotes from three factories, and we visit and inspect them in person before a build is committed.
We work back from the product and the pack. Product type first (powder, granule, liquid or solid), then output in units per minute, the pack format you sell into, the floor space and electrical supply you have, your budget, and where you expect production to be in three years. Across a border we do it on photographs, measurements and a courier sample: send the product and the film, and we will run it here before recommending anything.

Yes — one year, on the same terms as for a South African buyer. Genuine mechanical and electrical faults are covered and the parts are free; you pay the courier cost to get them to you. Damage from human error is chargeable, exactly as it is locally. Every job is logged on a job card so the history stays traceable.
