Flow wrappers and weigher-fed vertical form-fill-seal lines are the machines Zimbabwean producers specify most often. This is based on the machines we have delivered into Zimbabwe rather than on general demand. It reflects a market packing snacks, confectionery, maize meal, sugar, dried beans and peanut butter for local retail.
Send us your product, and we will test it before you buy. Courier us your product, the packaging film you intend to use, and the carton you pack it into. We run a sample batch on the recommended machine and send you the results. No deposit is required for the trial.
Zimbabwe is the largest market we supply outside South Africa. We have delivered all four of the machine types listed on this page, being shrink wrap, flow wrap, vertical form-fill-seal and horizontal form-fill-seal, as well as multihead-weigher systems. A machine for Zimbabwe is quoted exactly as it would be for a South African buyer, around your product, pack format, output and level of automation, with installation and operator training included. What changes is the leg from Johannesburg and the clearing at the Beitbridge crossing. Those sit with you, and the split is set out below and in full in our guide to exporting packaging machines.
Our quoted price includes sea freight from the factory to our workshop in Riversands, Johannesburg, which is our only premises in South Africa. There are two ways to move the machine from there into Zimbabwe. Collecting from Johannesburg is usually the more affordable option.
The machine arrives at Riversands as part of our normal sea shipment, and this freight is already included in the quoted price. Transport from our workshop into Zimbabwe is then arranged by you.
For some machines we can air freight the unit directly to your country instead of routing it through Johannesburg. We supplied our clients in Nigeria this way.
We book whole containers and consolidate several customers’ machines into each one, so a container cannot be redirected to a single buyer. A direct sea shipment would mean taking a full container yourself. For Zimbabwe this makes little difference in any case. Zimbabwe is landlocked, so a sea shipment would still arrive at Durban or Beira and travel the rest of the way by road.
Machines leave our Riversands workshop and travel the N1 to Beitbridge, roughly 550 km. From the border, it is about 580 km to Harare or 320 km to Bulawayo. Some clients send their own truck and handle the crossing themselves, while others appoint a courier that manages the border formalities. Both arrangements have worked well. Our technicians then travel to site to install and commission the machine.
Lead time is the same as for a South African buyer: a machine we hold at Riversands is ready once payment clears, and one that is not in stock takes 10 to 12 weeks from deposit. Transport from Johannesburg and clearing at the border are on top of that, and the export guide sets out the full sequence.

Most machines are collected from Riversands and run up the N1 to Beitbridge, about 550 km, then another 580 km to Harare or 320 km to Bulawayo. Zimbabwean buyers have done it both ways: some send their own truck and handle the crossing themselves, others appoint a courier who manages the border formalities.
Our own technicians travel up and commission the machine on your floor, and the installation and operator training are already in the quote. What you carry is the visa, the flights or vehicle, accommodation, meals and the days on site. Because Zimbabwe is the market we visit most, trips are usually easy to schedule.
Wear parts sit on the shelf in Johannesburg and go out by courier, which is the point of buying from South Africa rather than importing: the same part from an overseas factory is an eight to twelve week wait. Allow for clearing at Beitbridge on top of the courier time.
Phone or video call the workshop with your operator standing at the machine. Every fault in Zimbabwe so far has been sorted out remotely, and no repair trip has been needed. If a visit is ever required we will arrange it and you cover the travel.
Quotes are issued in rand, and we convert on request, noting the rate and the date. Entry- to mid-level machines are 50% deposit and the balance before delivery; bigger or customised projects are structured around the Factory Acceptance Test.
